Grapevine Communication

Grapevine communication often occurs in a business setting. It is an informal communication were a message passed through the words of mouth. I've learned that there are different kinds of grapevine communication: The wheel, the cluster, the chain, and the free flow.

These are like structures on how the message is passed. In the wheel grapevine, it obviously looks like a wheel. There is one person who is predominant in this type of grapevine. He/She who is in the center, transmit information to different persons or group of persons. Next, is we have the cluster grapevine. Like grapes, they have several groups of people linked together by a cluster of information. We also have a chain grapevine. It is the most common pattern in which information passes through a series of people linked together in the organization. Lastly, we have the free flow grapevine. Most of the rumors are spread random, this type of grapevine includes a number of people who are not necessarily linked by any organizational thread, this type of grapevine is when the information is passed randomly.

This meeting was very productive and I'm really glad to be aware of this kind of communication because through this I'll know what information to believe, and to accept. Especially now that fake news are spreading. Rumors are everywhere and sometimes, we just have to be aware and wise on accepting real life information.
